Scotwest Credit Union began life in 1991 as Strathclyde Regional Council Employees Credit Union Ltd. We met weekly in Strathclyde House in Glasgow city centre to consider loan applications of up to £100 and managed savings for staff from the council and from Strathclyde Fire Brigade and Strathclyde Water Board.
Quickly outgrowing these humble beginnings, and having changed our name to Scotwest Credit Union, we became the credit union for the 12 local authorities which replaced Strathclyde Regional Council. In 1995 we soon moved to offices only a stone’s throw away from the location of those initial meetings.
Offering savings accounts, loans and mortgages to anyone living or working across the West of Scotland*, membership has now grown to almost 30,000 making us one of the biggest Credit Unions in the UK.
Whether you are looking to take your first steps onto the property ladder, moving up or just looking for a better deal, Scotwest offers variable rate and fixed rate mortgages.
With our Fixed Rate Mortgage, the interest rate is fixed for a period of 2 years, giving you added peace of mind and allowing easier budgeting and planning.
Flexibility is key with our variable rate mortgage, as you have the freedom to make extra payments as and when you choose, whilst still benefiting from a great interest rate.
If you are thinking about applying for a mortgage the first step is to complete the Mortgage Enquiry Form (you can also complete the form over the phone by calling Member Services on 0141 227 2390 (Monday to Thursday 8.30-5pm, Fridays 8.30-4pm).
